Frequently Asked Questions
What is dog chiropractic?
Dog chiropractic is a holistic, non-invasive approach to treating a number of joint, muscular, neurological and skeletal conditions that occur in dogs as a result of activity, injury, breed, trauma, birth trauma and lifestyle. Animal chiropractic follows similar principles to human chiropractic, and will consist of a light touch manual manipulation of the spine, neck, joints, and other affected areas. This will relieve pain and injury by restoring the proper biomechanics and nervous system communication.
How do I know if chiropractic care is right for my dog?
Dogs that suffer from any of the following symptoms (and many others) can benefit from chiropractic adjustments:
- Abnormal or irregular posture
- Discomfort or pain when standing after rest
- Stiffness or inability to move neck
- Development of new or unusual behavior
- Whining or whimpering
- Visible signs of apprehension or pain
- Sensitivity to touch or discomfort from petting or brushing
- Agressive behavior, general bad attitude or biting
- Lack or loss of coordination or muscle mass
- Inability to do up-dog or down-dog stretch
- Tilting head to one side
- Dragging of the foot
- Hip dysplasia
- Urinary incontinence
- Repetitive use injuries
- Post-surgery recovery
- And more
What types of dogs can benefit from care?
- Aging and senior dogs
- Competition dogs including agility, show, sled, disc, race and flyball
- Injured and sick dogs
- Puppies with birth trauma or other complications
- Dogs breeds prone to abnormal anatomical structure
- Dogs that are not responsive to other treatments
- Active dogs that hike, ski, play frisbee or fetch
- Dogs that need preventative and general wellness care
How will I know if my dog’s health is improving? When will I see results?
Many times we see a visible improvement in your dog’s health in just one visit, while other dogs may need a series of adjustments to see results. In either case, it’s safe to say that nearly all dogs will benefit from an adjustment, whether through overall wellness or healing a specific condition.
How many visits are required?
A majority of dogs see a large improvement in one to three visits, however the number of visits suggested will vary depending on case, response and severity. Overall, we see that dogs respond very quickly to chiropractic adjustments.
How much does it cost?
$70 per visit or pre-paid packages are available at a discounted rate. A chiropractic adjustment costs less than a typical bag of dog food, and this will likely be your smallest animal care expense.
